Establishing New Teachers Institutes
The process of establishing a Teachers Institute that will participate in the Yale National Initiative requires of those who will engage in the new partnership a detailed acquaintance with, and understanding of, the principles and procedures of such an Institute. It also requires that the Yale National Initiative assists with the gaining of that acquaintance and understanding. The new partnership must then apply for and receive permission to participate in the Yale National Initiative during a Planning Phase of at least nine months' duration, which will enable it to devote itself to more detailed planning of a new Institute.
Preliminary Steps
An important early step consists of meetings not only of key university and school administrators, but especially of school teachers who might assume a leading role in the new Institute and those university faculty members who might lead seminars and help to identify interested colleagues on the faculty.
Planning an Institute
The Yale National Initiative will provide instructions and forms on which to apply to participate in the Yale National Initiative and receive its services during a Planning Phase of at least nine months duration.
Implementing an Institute
An applicant to participate in the Yale National Initiative and become a member of the League of Teachers Institutes during a multi-year Implementation must have arranged – or must be arranging – funding from the school district(s) and the university and, if necessary, supplemental funding from a Federal program, a national funder, or one or more local funders.
