It is easy to read and understand; and it has terrific illustrations.

This website offers a basic overview of the endangered species in the Chesapeake Bay.

Bormann, F.H. "Ecology: A Personal History." Annual Review of Energy & the Environment 21 (1996): 1-31. This article shares the real life story of ecologist, F.H. Bormann and his work with watersheds.

Buckley, Michael. Voices of the Chesapeake Bay. Edgewater: Geared Up Publications, 2008. This book examines the Chesapeake Bay from many different viewpoints. It gives a glimpse into life on the bay.

Lawler, Joshua, Steven Campbell, Anne Guerry, Mary Kolozsvary, Raymond O'Connor, and Lindsay Seward. "The Scope and Treatment of Threats in Endangered Species Recovery Plans." Ecological Applications 12 (2002): 663-667. A useful article for understanding perturbations.

Louv, Richard(Author). Last Child in the Woods: Saving Our Children from Nature-Deficit Disorder. Chapel Hill, North Carolina: Algonquin Books of Chapel Hill, 2008. I've only read a few chapters of this book, but I really find it fascinating. It is very useful for getting kids in touch with nature.

Schmidt, Susan. Landfall along the Chesapeake: In the Wake of Captain John Smith. Baltimore: The Johns Hopkins University Press, 2006. A pleasurable read with valuable information woven throughout the journey through the Chesapeake.

New York: Mariner Books, 2007. The words of writers, scientists, and activists give insight into the life of Rachel Carson.

Foundations of Ecology: Classic Papers with Commentaries. Chicago: University Of Chicago Press, 1991. This was a challenging book if you lack a foundation in ecology.
