Tools for this Unit:

Embodied spirits of the sea gracefully dance

the motion of crashing waves that carry a dolphin’s surf

delighted to embrace and sing harmony of peace

as the synchronized souls magically weave between

the depths of sea and the azure summer sky

This is where I offer my prayers for peace and light for the world.

Introduction

Painting a picture using sensory imagery creates an immersive reading experience for the curious mind. Vivid details evoke emotions and communicate an engaging tone and mood. Invoking vivid details in a story provokes either a favorable or a negative adventure. Most importantly, imagery can inspire students to engage the five senses.  As we navigate other realms through writing, fictional or real events can entertain, inform, or persuade a reader. Students need more exposure to vivid language and sensory details in order to learn to describe a picture or illustration in a narrative form. With the help of mentor sentences, students can effectively develop writing skills from examples to guide them. Most importantly, students in this unit will be able to engage in an exciting experience of learning by exploring and describing objects through visiting multi-sensory classroom stations. The goal of the unit’s lesson is for students to analyze and describe a picture in one paragraph using sensory details. Eventually, the students will apply their narrative writing technique to real world situations.
