Cofer, J. O. (1993). The Latin deli: Prose and poetry. New York: W.W. Norton & Co. A

collection of poetry, prose, and short autobiographical fiction depicting Puerto

Rican life and coming-of-age.

screen: 100 years of the Latino image in Hollywood (2002). A documentary film about the evolution of Latino actors in Hollywood and the portrayal of Latinos in film.

Hernández, J. (1989). The death of Speedy. Seattle, WA: Fantagraphics Books. A contemporary comic book set in the barrio, reads at one level as a soap opera, and at another as social commentary and exposé. Engaging illustrations and comic book style imagery.

York, NY: St. Martin's Griffin. U.S. born author describes many Latino groups

and suggests there is more commonality among them than differences. Takes a "melting pot" stance.
