Demographics

I teach at Pittsburgh Dilworth PreK-5.  Dilworth is currently an arts and humanities magnet within the Pittsburgh Public Schools.  Due to possible district restructuring, Dilworth may not continue as a magnet after this coming school year.  However, because we are still a full magnet school for at least one more school year, we are privileged to have full time music and full time art faculty.  I understand our privilege and hope that our district is able to keep their promise of bringing a more equitable distribution of the arts to every school as part of their restructuring process.

Our student demographics this past school year was approximately 60% African American, 30% White, and about 10% who identify as Mixed Race.  Our individualized education program (IEP) students and gifted individualized education program (GIEP) students represent about 17% of our student population along with an economically disadvantaged population of a little over 50%.11
