Objectives

This curriculum unit asks students to look beyond names, dates, and historical events to examine how ordinary young people have challenged injustice, strengthened their communities, and created meaningful change. As they explore literacy, identity, belonging, and civic responsibility, students will strengthen their reading, writing, speaking, listening, and critical thinking skills while considering what it means to participate in their schools, communities, and democracy.

The questions that guide this unit do not have easy answers. They are meant to spark conversations, challenge assumptions, and encourage students to reflect on their own experiences and those of others.
