Classroom Context

My classroom is a majority-minority classroom in Central Texas, with 80% of our student population being black and/or Hispanic.  The student body is primarily lower on the economic spectrum, and the community itself is a small town, bordering on rural.  In other words, exactly the kind of working- and middle-class families who were seizing power in this period of American history!  As such, care will be taken in this unit to highlight the contributions of African American and Mexican American progressives, and to highlight the power for the people that were achieved in the Progressive Era.  If your demographics are significantly different, feel free to highlight more relevant agitators, or the responses of the upper class supporters of the progressive movement (women of Hull House, etc.).
