Part one: Objectives one and two will be covered in the lecture "The Trouble with Colonizing". In preparation for this we will do the group activity "The Perfect Colony". Out of Many chapters 2-5.
1…complete a chart on the three (3) major geographical regions (northern, middle, southern)of the colonial period including at least two (2) pieces of information for each of the following categories: colonies in the distinct regions, major religions, cultural/ ethnic distinction, economic activities, and government systems.
2…complete five (5) parts of the Colonial Society handout.
Part two: Objectives 3-5 will be covered by the lecture "Evolution of a Revolution". In addition there we will be a short lecture on the proper structure of a social studies essay and discussion of the essay grading rubric. Text chapters 6, 7 (pp.165-175).
3…write an essay in which you analyze the statement "It might be said that it was the British who were revolutionaries in 1763 and the colonists who were conservatives attempting to preserve the status quo."
4…construct an annotated timeline of twenty (20) events in the revolutionary war period starting in 1754 and ending in 1783.
5…read about the debate over the colonies decision to declare its independence then list and explain three (3) reasons for and three (3) against this action. Be sure to cite specific historical examples…students may want to look for names like Patrick Henry, Thomas Paine, and Charles Inglis.
Part three: Objectives 6-9 will be covered with the lecture "Developments in the New Republic". Text chapters 7 (pp.176-189), chapter 8.
