This book provides in-depth information about the "sociology" of food including the food system, social organization of eating, food, heath, and well-being, as well as the patterns of preference and avoidance.

Bourdain, Anthony. Kitchen confidential: adventures in the culinary underbelly. New York, NY: Bloomsbury, 2000. This raw but engaging book tells the story of Anthony Bourdain's rise to be a chef. He explicitly describes many of the illicit and controversial happenings in a restaurant's kitchen. High school students will find it fascinating! Be warned that the language and some of the content matter may be considered offensive to some people.

Hart, Cynthia, and Lisa Samson. Tell me your story: the oral history workshop. New York, NY: Workman Pub., 2009. Excellent resource for teachers and students alike on collecting people's stories. The sections on interviews - preparing, collecting information, and using the information to write up pieces is worth looking at.

This paper gives an excellent overview of Goffman's life and his main areas of research. This paper can be used for background information for students as it is a very accessible text.

Ritchie, Donald A. Doing oral history: a practical guide. 2nd ed. Oxford: Oxford University Press, 2003.This book helps students better understand the intricacies of interviewing others for data collection.
