Conclusion

Having schools that are equal and equitable should be the goal of every person in every society. From the Founders to business leaders of today having an educated public and workforce has been a priority. Congress, the Courts, and others have all attempted activism and reforms geared towards equalizing schools, yet inequality persists.

In this unit my students have learned about the inequalities that exist within their own school environment, examined the challenges that lie in the way of reforms and improvements, and researched their own possible solutions. Along the way they have practiced their research skills, historical thinking skills, and collaboration skills. This unit therefore has multiple opportunities for growth and learning for my students. The main goal that I have for them, however, is to find their voice and learn that they all have a role to play in improving their schools, and in improving their society.
