Objectives

By the end of this unit the students will be able to explain the characteristics of memoir; define lies, stereotype, and prejudice as they pertain to creative writing; identify and discuss common stereotypes and how stereotypes originate; connect these concepts to the notion of 'lies'; use the higher-level thinking model to analyze professionally written memoirs; synthesize components of craft in original student-created memoirs; evaluate each other's original memoir in an effective and efficient manner; and use the creative thinking model to create original writing pieces that reflect both gained knowledge of writing craft and recognition of stereotypes. The product completion expectation will be that each student produces at least two memoirs of at least three pages per memoir.
