Patterson, Suzanne. "The Statue of Liberty." Unesco Courier 45, no. 9, 46-48. This article explains how the Statue of Liberty was created and shipped to the United States.

Owen Jones, Jeffrey. "The Man Who Wrote the Pledge of Allegiance." Smithsonian Magazine, November 1, 2003. This is a good source that tells more about Francis Bellamy and his motivation for writing the Pledge of Allegiance.

Ryan, Pam Munoz, and Ralph Masiello. The Flag We Love. Watertown, MA: Charlesbridge Pub, 1996. This resource can be used for both the teacher and the students. While it is a great read-aloud book, the bottom of each page contains historical information.

Smith, Owen. One Nation: Power, Hope, Community. London: One Nation Register, 2013. Print. This was written for Britain, but is referenced because the author talks a lot about the idea of being one nation and citizens need to do in order to be a united nation.

The American Flag: A Handbook of History & Etiquette. Carlisle, Mass.: Applewood Books, 2013. This book gives information about the evolution of the flag. It includes all the official code and documents governing the use of the American flag.

"The Bald Eagle." Wildlife of the James. Accessed July 8, 2015. http://www.jamesriverassociation.org/enjoy-the-james/wildlife-of-the-james-bald-eagle. This website was used to get the quote about Bald eagles by author Maude Grant. It can also be used to learn some eagle facts.

"The Great Seal of the United States." Accessed July 12, 2015. http://www.state.gov/documents/organization/27807.pdf. This government document is dedicated the history of the Great Seal.

"The Pledge of Allegiance." Ushistory.org. Accessed May 15, 2015. This websites contains information about the history of the pledge of allegiance and its many changes.
