Objectives
Students will be able to apply the elements of literature, primarily those that help create suspense, to
written text in the format of a short story.
Students will be able to identify the formal elements of film and the various devices and techniques
employed by filmmakers in a filmed narrative.
Students will be able to use their knowledge of filmmaking techniques to further their understanding of the
essential literary elements that make up all forms of narrative.
Students will be able to critically compare a short story with a film version, determining how they reveal
the literary elements in the same ways and in different ways.
