In Virginia, students are expected to solve single-step and multi-step addition and subtraction problems with whole numbers by the fourth grade. This unit addresses the following Virginia Standard of Learning in mathematics.8

4.4  The student will solve single-step and multistep addition, subtraction, and multiplication problems with whole numbers.
