Teaching Strategies
Interdisciplinary & Transdisciplinary Learning: Students will apply content from their science and ELA classes to synthesize knowledge and build/enhance skills between academic disciplines. By completing research projects, analyzing/solving real world problems as individuals and in teams, as well as through case studies, students will develop problem-solving skills involving complex topics and issues.
Cooperative Learning: Through this student-centered instructional strategy, students will engage in small group activities to achieve shared learning goals. Students will prioritize structured interactions and apply pre-established norms and protocols to ensure all group members are equitably responsible for their individual and team success.
Inquiry-Based Learning: While some teacher-led instruction will take place in no more than 10–15-minute whole group touchpoints, majority of student learning will happen through structured and guided inquiry opportunities. During structured inquiry lessons, students will be provided tasks, materials, and step by step procedures to discover known outcomes. Guided inquiry lessons are provided research topics and/or case studies and are responsible for designing the explanations and methods for problems.
Project-Based Learning: As a culmination to their learning journey throughout this unit, students will tackle open-ended, real-world problem-solving requiring the application of critical thinking skills, creativity, and innovation to achieve successful outcomes.
