Tools for this Unit:

Choir

Related to band is the choir. During the civil rights movement, young people would form choirs and sing freedom songs. "We Shall Overcome” and "Ain't Gonna Let Nobody Turn Me Around" are noteworthy. Music builds courage, unity, and hope. Also, this was what preserved thought through the times of tragedy and triumph.[17]

Choir improves reading fluency and helps language development. Listening and memory are critical in every stage of development. Academics, politics, and life. The confidence that comes from this will help develop public speaking skills. This is another part of the overall development of civic responsibility. We can see why the curriculum was structured as such. The holistic development of the students enabled them to use the tools they were given.[18]
