Appelt, Kathi. Poems From Homeroom: A Writer's Place to Start. New York: Henry Holt, 2002.

This is an excellent resource to use as a read aloud with your students in the classroom. If you want your students to hear from peers who have written poetry, this is a great resource.

Borus, Audrey. A Student's Guide to Emily Dickinson . Berkeley Heights, NJ: Enslow Publishers, 2005.

Emily Dickinson sheds light on how this brilliant writer created her poetry. The book is excellent if you are teaching students about themes in poetry such as life, death, love or nature.

Grimes, Nikki. Bronx Masquerade . New York: Dial Books, 2002.

This is another excellent resource for students to use if they are reluctant writers.
